A few words about us

The Hungarian embroidery crafts (clothing, doilies, runners, tablecloths, pillowcases, laces and many more) have their old traditions and continue to develop in the present days.
FolkArtHungary's store offers you a wide variety of these folk handicrafts.

Different regions of Hungary have different tradition of creating this art. On our site we represent Matyo and Kalocsa art.

The village of Mezökövesd is on the edge of the Hungarian Great Plains. The center of Matyo country, it is famous for its embroidery. The Matyo-style, characterized by a profusion of patterns and colors, flourished at the end of the 19th century.

Another favorite embroidery center is Kalocsa in the Great Plain region. Originally the old Kalocsa embroidery was white, with open-work. The colored Kalocsa embroidery of today first appeared after the turn of the century.

All products of FolkArtHungary.com are hand-made, and they were made by Hungarian craftsmen, in Mezökövesd and Kalocsa.

Me and my wife (the founders of this site) were born in Mezökövesd, in the "capital of Matyoland". Our parents still live there, but we moved to Budapest years ago.
